SDH Toastmasters Club Competetion - 11th October 2010

Passing the Area and Division level Humorous Speech and Speech Evaluation Contest, now all eyes are focus on the District level.

This last Monday (11th October 2010), the Sime Darby Healthcare TMC had its usual club meeting after a slight change in plans to do a combined meeting with Stamford College TMC. For this meeting there was a good turn up of club members and visitors. Like any other Sime Darby Healthcare TMC meeting, the meeting was filled with lots of laughter and humour. Among the highlights of the meeting, I was very encouraged by the turn out for the meeting. We had guests from Stamford College TMC, Sunway TMC, Shakelee Dynamic TMC and regulars in our meeting like Stephen Fernando and Samuel.

During table topics, we were no longer called to speak from our minds but rather our hearts.

For the speeches, we were privileged to have 5 speeches delivered, 2 were basic project speeches while 3 were advance speeches. Among those speeches, we where very privilege to have Dr. Hanis present and demonstrate his speech entitled "The Saxophone - Part 2". Not only was the speech very insightful and well delivered, we were also given a music piece demonstration as a closing. We were also entertained with 2 story telling speeches by TM Jay Vee on "The Deceitful Pelican" and TM Eu-Jynn on his lemon tree, a praise speech by TM Lucas praising the success of Donald Trump and another speech by TM Jet Chan on his close to death experience.

Above all the entertaining speeches and humorous comments during the meeting, we manage to end on time at 8:30pm.

To sum the meeting up we were honoured to acknowledge the following speakers:

Best Table Topic Speaker
Bushra, CC, CL
Table Topic: Music

Best Project Speech

For those who where unable to join us, here are some updates on the contest. Overall, the meeting was a blast! Usually you would expect the mood to be a little more tense and serious since it is a competition, but instead the meeting was spontaneous and humorous. There were lots of laughs, not just because of the humorous speeches, but I think everyone was in a cheerful spirit. And to top it off, we where served with jelly (famous in our club), dates, low fat fried rice and cheese cake for dinner and for our Muslim friends to "buka puasa".

In our HSC, there were 4 participants and all participants performed extremely well. The contest we indeed very humorous and there was a burst of talent. Every speaker spoke very naturally and their jokes where nothing short of entertaining. Well done everyone!! Continue to develop those talents and continue to spread this beneficial medicine around.

Toasmasters Club Meeting - 9th August 2010

It is 2 weeks before the competition... It was suppose to be an intense time. Everyone was expecting that the competitors would use this last opportunity to practise their speech for the up coming competition. Oddly there was no one doing their humorous speech!!! A change in the tide?? Instead we were blessed with 2 project speeches.

First speech was given by Toastmaster Mas Nor. She was giving her 3rd speech on organizing your speech. She gave a very well prepared speech entitled "Understanding Your Child". It was a great speech. Personally, hearing Mas give her speech I can see that she has made a mark improvement on her delivery of her speech. From the shy and nervous first speech, she has transformed to a person that enjoys sharing her story. Even though it is only her 3rd speech, she gave it with confidence. You could tell that she wa
s comfortable with the crowd. Mas, you did great! Look forward to hear your future speeches.

For the second speech, we where privileged to hear Advance Communicator Samuel Selvarajoo give his advance speech from the Speciality Speeches manual. You could see that this season speaker had what it takes to deliver an effective. Having given his speech from the "Off the Cuff" assignment, ACB Samuel a.k.a Sam came well prepared.

We were then given the opportunity to learn from Competent Communicator, Competent Leader Yeoh Cheng Lim on doing a good evaluation.

In the end, it would seem that the coming club competition did not affect our club members in this meeting. In turn, everyone that spoke that evening spoke exceptionally well. According to, Advance Communicator Gold, Victor, everyone that spoke for the table topics spoke very well and were very confident. 3 Cheers to all those who spoke!!!

By the end of the meeting, we acknowledged the best table topic speaker for the night.

Best Table Topic Speaker
Sara Kek, TM
Table Topic: Bad Habits

Congratulations Sara...

Overall, the meeting was a success. Everyone had fun and out performed their own expectation. Until the next meeting, which will be the club contest, all the best to all the competitors who will be participating in the Humorous Speech and Evaluation contest.

For details on the our club contest, kind view the previous blog post announcement.
Thank you.

Toasmasters Club Meeting - 23rd July 2010

In this session of our Toastmasters meeting, we were privileged to be visited by our friends "Fun" and "Laughter". Although there wasn't a theme for the night, but it was a colourful night indeed. Our table topics was prepared and presented by our Table Topic Master, Sara Kek, and each topic was based on the colour of the rainbow. Each speaker had to draw lots to pick the colour and they were required to speak anything about the colour. Coincidentally, the word of the evening was "Imagination" and the table topics had given us enough room to express that. To add on the fun, we laughed our hearts out as Advance Communicator Bronze Stephen Fernando gave his 2 minute table topic speech on red colour. He was hilarious as he thought us about colour blindness and how he always considers himself fair because he is colour blind.

For the manual speech, we were privilege to to hear Competent Communicator Vincent Soon, give his Advance Speech #4 from the Speaking to Inform manual. He was well prepared and he brought our imaginations to the airport to be faced with a flight delay senario.

Closing to the end of the night, it was Toastmaster Mizi took the hearts of all the members and guest by sharing his purple heart table topic speech. He was awarded, best table topic speaker for the night.

Best Table Topic Speaker
Mohd Tarmizi, TM
Table Topic: Purple

At the end of the session, the GE for the evening Stephen Fernando left us with words of encouragement and a challenge that everyone should do their speeches. So fellow Toastmasters, we are gathered in this meeting week after week to share and build up our public speaking skills so let us encourage each other and do more speeches.

Presidential Address 2009/2010

Club Vision: To shape ourselves towards to be successful communicators and leaders in Toastmasters.

Let’s start from the very beginning. This is the beginning of a new term. We have a lot to look forward to and many challenges to face. It is my pleasure to be your President for 2009-2010. With your help, together we can achieve our goals and club goals. I shall put in my full commitment for all members ( 7, 11 ) negotiable.

Time is our biggest hurdle. We must try to overcome it. Only twice a month, 2nd & 4th Monday, all members meet. EXCO meets once a month. Sure we can make it. When time permits, we can go extra miles to visit other Clubs to learn more. Keep an open mind. Please don’t say “cannot”, say “I will”. Now you can do it. Show your potential!

Enjoy your Toastmasters journey to success.
